Εντυπωσιακή απόβαση στην Σκύρο των Πεζοναυτών Ελλάδας και ΗΠΑ κατά την διάρκεια της άσκησης «Μέγας Αλέξανδρος», που είναι σε εξέλιξη.

Εντυπωσιακή απόβαση Ελλήνων και Αμερικανών Πεζοναυτών πραγματοποιήθηκε στην Σκύρο, κατά την διάρκεια της ημέρας διακεκριμένων επισκεπτών, DV-DAY.
Πρόκειται για την τελική φάση της διακλαδικής διμερούς άσκησης «ALEXANDER THE GREAT» με τις ΗΠΑ, με τη συγκρότηση δυνάμεων Πεζοναυτών, Ομάδων Ειδικών Επιχειρήσεων από την 31 Μοίρα Επιχειρήσεων Έρευνας και Διάσωσης, τη Μονάδα Αεροπορικών Ειδικών Επιχειρήσεων, το Τάγμα Εναέριου Ανεφοδιασμού της Διακλαδικής Διοίκησης Ειδικών Επιχειρήσεων και όλες οι Μονάδες της Διοίκησης Ειδικού Πολέμου (ΔΕΠ/ΓΕΕΘΑ).
Η άσκηση πλαισιώνεται από Αρματαγωγά του Πολεμικού Ναυτικού καθώς και προσωπικό και μέσα της Πολεμικής Αεροπορίας, ενώ η περιοχή της άσκησης καλύπτει το τόξο μεταξύ του Παγασητικού Κόλπου, του Νομού Μαγνησίας, έως τον Άγιο Ευστράτιο και τη Λήμνο.
Στην άσκηση συμμετέχει ο διόλου ευκαταφρόνητος αριθμός των περίπου 650 Αμερικανών Πεζοναυτών προερχομένων από το 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (22d MEU) και το 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion μαζί με τα πλοία USNS «CARSON CITY» και «ARLINGTON», που χρησιμοποιούνται ως πλατφόρμες υποστήριξης Ειδικών Επιχειρήσεων. Στα αντικείμενα της άσκησης έχουν προβλεφθεί σενάρια που θα ενισχύσουν τη συνέργεια Ελληνικών και Αμερικανών Ενόπλων Δυνάμεων, μηδενίζοντας τους νεκρούς χρόνους και αξιοποιώντας στο έπακρο τον σχεδιασμό που έχει εκπονηθεί υπό την αιγίδα του ΓΕΕΘΑ, επιστέγασμα του οποίου αποτέλεσε η εκτέλεση αμφίβιας επιχείρησης στη Σκύρο.

Στην άσκηση συμμετέχουν επίσης παρατηρητές από την Αίγυπτο, ενώ σύμφωνα με αξιόπιστες πληροφορίες είχε εκδηλώσει επιθυμία συμμετοχής στην άσκηση με παρατηρητές και η Πορτογαλία, κάτι που αποδεικνύει το υψηλό επίπεδο εκπαίδευσης των Ελλήνων Πεζοναυτών αλλά και ο βαθμός συνεργασίας με τις αντίστοιχες αμερικανικές δυνάμεις.
