Probonas Grove

Probonas Grove is located in the area of Perissos, near the Rizoupoli stadium. During the Byantine Era, this grove was a cemetary. It was named after the physician Dimitris Probonas who bequethed the land to the Municipality of Athens.

The grove was used by the Municipality as a plant nursery until 2009, when it was converted into a place of recreation and culture. The grove has a surface of aproximately 9,88 acres and is located behind the abandoned Columbia building. The verdant grove offersnumerous trees and colorful flowers, a fountain, carefully and well-defined paths for walking and running, a playground and two basketball courts.

Inside the grove the visitor will find an old shrine of Saint George and a large church dedicated to Saint George of Ag. Anargyroi and Saint Foteini.
