The Klonaridis-Fix park or “Garden of National Resistance”, was renewed and converted into a modern sustainable urban park, with structure and planting based on international trends in landscape architecture and environmental design.
Through the program “Adopt your city”, Olympic Brewery and FIX Hellas support the work of the Municipality of Athens, so that the capital’s historical park may once again become an important urban green area withquality aesthetics, further adding to its aesthetics in daily life in the densely built-up area of Patisia.
The specialized teams of the Municipality of Athens proceeded with multiple projects and interventions in the parkwith a surface of 7.500 sq.m. As part of the redevelopment, works were conducted to restore the paths of the park with water-permeable material, the urban equipment (benches, waste binsand signage) was renewed, all the lamps were replaced with LED technology heads for improved energy efficiency and the fountain was fully restored and is now functional.
More than 4.500 plants of Mediterranean flora with great resistance to the urban fabric and pollution and low watering requirementswere planted in the park. Also, for the first time in a municipal park, a perennial meadow was planted in all its parts, which remains green throughout the year. In the central part of the park, a garden dedicated to the senses was created, consisting of plants with different colors and textures of foliage and flowers, reflecting a strong seasonal and botanical interest.
At the southern border of the park, a garden dedicated to biodiversity was created, with the planting of evergreens, Mediterranean shrubs under the trees and water plants around the fountain. The western alley with plane trees was enhanced with linear plantings of perennial herbaceous species and shrubs, while on the eastern border with PatisionStreet, the lawn surface was restored, with the purpose of becoming a meeting point and outdoor activities area. Great care has also been taken for the birds of the park, as troughs and feeders have been installed.
Finally, the 27 benches of the park were designed by students of the AKTO educational group, in the framework of wider cooperation with the Olympic Brewery, giving an artistic touch to the space.
