Karaiskaki Square

Karaiskaki Square is a large square located in the district of Metaxourgeio and includes a metro station. The largest part of thissquare has been designed as a green area with trees, flowers and grass. In the center of the square on a pyramidal base stands the Icarus Monument to Fallen Aviators, a modern art metal statue created in 1987 by the sculptor EvangelosMoustakas and the architect IoannisMoustakas.

Visitors can the flavors from most countries of the world in the restaurants located around the square, since the majority of these restaurants offerethnic food.Additionally, the Archaeological Museum, the Plato Academy, the Kerameikos and the renovated National Theatre of Greeceare located very close to the square.

Karaiskaki Square serves as an important urban hub of Athens. It is located 500 meters west of Omonia Square, with which it is connected via AgiosKonstantinou Street. Below the square is the metro station of line 2 with the same name. As the square is the largest and most popular in the district, many mistakenly call it Metaxourgeio square, which is actually two blocks to the west, at the junction of Lenorman and Achilleos streets.

The square is quite large, similar to Omonia square, while the largest part has been designed as an urban green area with trees and lawn.
