Lets go Athens

Skouze Hill

Formerly known as the hill of Saint Emilianos, it was named after the banker Georgios Skouzes, who owned an area of fifteen acres and bought from the surrounding owners an area of about twenty acres, where the hill was located, thus forming a large estate. He fenced the area and planted fine olive trees, pines, cypresses and fruit trees. The first inhabitants of the area hailed from Cyclades and mainly Mykonos. An area with interwar single-family houses of remarkable architectural features and with a wonderful view, due to the altitude. At the top of the hill, the large stone temple of AgiosEmilianos with ancient Greek elements in its structure, such as the marble columns, is built on the site of the ancient temple of Euchloos Demeter.

It is a verdant hill, with stone steps, visitors can reach the top with an easy hike passing through mulberry, cypress, olive and pine trees, and enjoy the view while relaxing. It is a relatively small hill that visitors can explore in a few hours and rest on the benches that are located there or enjoy the children’s play at the playground.
